Met-L-Flo Case Study: Metal Prototypes
Direct Digital Manufacturing
The best application for DDM products are those with complex geometries. Direct Metal systems enable metal parts to be made very quickly. This includes geometries that cannot be made conventionally, or made cost effectively using traditional manufacturing methods.
Investment Casting / QuickCast®
The QuickCast® method allows you to rapidly build highly accurate patterns that bypass tooling for metal parts. All types of parts can be produced with this technique.
Lost Wax Casting and Rubber Plaster
These methods are great for small and preproduction runs. Additive Manufactured patterns are widely used to get high quality parts quickly and in a variety of metals.
Sand Casting
Sand casting is a very good process that can use Additive Manufactured patterns to accelerate the production process.

Direct Digital Manufacturing is an extension of Rapid Prototyping to produce greater quantities of parts. As of 2007, the required machines have become practical in price, speed, reliability, and cost of use. This has led to the expansion of their use in industry. There has been explosive growth in the sales and distribution of the hardware. A new industry has emerged to create software to enable more effective use of the technology. Also, the number of materials that the machines can process has increased greatly in the decade to 2007.Modern machines can utilize a broad array of plastics & metals.

Hi,
Good post....ProtoCAM does metal coating on plastic prototypes created from other rapid prototyping techniques such as SLA, urethane casting, and injection molding. Typical metal coated prototypes are plated with nickel, copper, and chrome.

The first use of the word "computer" was recorded in 1613, referring to a person who carried out calculations, or computations, and the word continued to be used in that sense until the middle of the 20th century. From the end of the 19th century onwards though, the word began to take on its more familiar meaning, describing a machine that carries out computations.[3]
